In the 1880 Census, Charles Dugan is listed as a border in the home of Ada Todd on 7th Street. In August of that year, Rosa and Charles are married. They have three children, that we have found, the youngest of which died at 9 weeks. Rosa died 2 years later after a year long illness, probably consumption or complications of child birth. It is now known that Charles Dugan died of syphillis in 1928, so that disease may have had some impact on the marriage and on her health. She died in the home of her sister, Lilly, who had married funeral home owner Charles Hearing. At that time, there is no more mention of her husband, who is assumed to have deserted her. Perhaps, they were estranged because of the syphillus. Charles's death certificate lists him as widowed, so apparently they were not divorced.
