Welch, newspaper article on the wedding of Norma Norman and Bill Croisant obit MRS WELCH DIES LOLA WELCH HURT IN CAR WRECK Mrs A. J. Welch of Woodward, mother of Miss Lola Welch, executive secretary of Woodward-Ellis-Harper-Dewey Tuberculosis Association, was killed in a head-on auto collision 6 a.m. July 17 at Opelikia, Ala. Miss Welch, who was driving, received some broken ribs and other severe injuries but these injuries are not believed dangerous to her life. She was reported to be released early this week from the hospital in Opelikia. Miss Welch was on her vacation visiting her sister, wife of Dr. E. A. Henderson, of Opelikia. She was accompainied by her mother, who had made her home with Miss Welch, whose headquarters for the 4-county district is in Woodward. obit Annettie Belle Pope, third daughter of her parents, William D. Pope and Elizabeth E. Pope, was born near Xenia in Bourbon Co., Ks, northwest of Ft. Scott, on July 15, 1872. She met her death the morning of July 17, 1952, in an auto accident near Opelikia, Ala when returning from a vacation trip. She was 80 years and two days of age. She moved to ILL when quite small and lived near Blue Mound, IL until she was 12 years old. Then her parents moved again to KS, settling on a farm near Ft Scott. She was married at the age of 19 to Alfred J. Welch of Nevada, MO. To this union 8 children were born- a son, William A. Welch of Seiling, OK and 7 daughters as follows: Elsie M. Snyder of Vici, OK, Glessie L. Munson of Kaw City, OK, Hazel A. Norman of Ada, OK, Lola Welch of the home, Sue E. Henderson of Opelikia, Ala., Ruth A. Stafford of Ponca City, OK, and Ruby I. Niles of Richfield, KS. With her husband and 3 children, she came to a claim in Major Co., OK in 1901. They lived there until 1907 when they moved to a farm south west of Seiling in Dewey Co. In 1923 the family moved to Weatherford, OK so that the children might attend college. In 1932 after the children had finished college they returned to their farm near Seiling for 2 yrs., later moving to Seiling. Since the death of her husband in 1946, she and her daughter, Lola, have made their home in Woodward/. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of woodward, also a member of the West Side Birthday club. She was active in Home Demonstration club work when she lived on the farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred J. Welch; one daughter, Elsie Snyder; and one granddaughter, Hazel Morine Quimby. Besides her immediate family, she is survived by 7 children, 3 great grandchildren, one brother, Arthur Pope of Ft Scott, KS, one sister, Mrs Lola D. Ferguson of Webster Grove, MO and one aut Alma Underwood of Springfield, IL. She was devoted to her family and spent her time and energy caring for them. Her love of reading kept her young in thought. Her hobby of flower growing gave her much pleasure during recent years. Her loving memory will live on in th hearts of her children who mourn her loss. MY MOTHER Oh, she was beautiful to see, They said, and it was so. But what I cherish more, was She was beautiful to know. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O. Dixon Poe of the Presbyterian church of Woodward. The music consisting of 3 songs, "Doies Jesus Care","Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Beyond the Sunset", was furnished by the choir of the Presbyterian church. Interment was at the Sunnyside cemetery. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr and Mres William A. Welch and family of Seiling, OK; F.T. Snyder and children of Vivi, OK; Mr and Mrs Roy Munson of Kaw City, OK; Mr and Mrs C. H. Stafford and family on Ponca City, OK; Mr and Mrs Carl E. Niles and family of Richfield, KS; Mr and Mrs Bill Croisant of Mooreland, OK and Mr and Mrs Vern Quimby of Borger, TX.
