Offord family Bible; Death Notice in Zanesville, OH Times Recorder. [5-19-97] John's children identified in Census records (1880 and 1910) at Ohio Historical Society in Columbis. John Offord a well-known citizen of this city died at his home at Belknap street and Ridge Avenue at 3:30 O'Clock Tuesday evening. Death was due to heart disease. (text of death announcement in newspaper). "C." is very likely "Carney" after his mother. This name was passed down through the family. John was a founding member of the "Hope Hose Co." (a volunteer fire dept) on May 5, 1851. Another member of this company was Lemuel Fouts, which might help explain the connection between the Offords and Fouts in Morgan Co.
